Otoplasty and Earlobe Reconstructive Surgery in Englewood, NJ

Ear surgery can reduce the stigma and self-consciousness of having ears that stick out too far. Known as otoplasty or ear pinning, it is a common surgical procedure used to modify the appearance of the external ear, especially protruding ears or ‘cauliflower ears’. The procedure is often done for children during their preschool years.
Adults can also benefit from changing the shape and contour of their external ears. Dr. Kevin Ende, M.D. provides ear surgery and earlobe repair services at his clinic in Englewood, NJ. Dr. Ende is highly experienced and has operated on thousands of earlobes in his career.

Everything You Need to Know About Ear Surgery

Ear surgery is performed under local anesthesia and a procedure takes approximately 1 hour to complete. You may be partially awake when having the procedure. This is done to minimize the risks posed by anesthesia. Patients will need to wear a bandage for one night after surgery and yellow gauze for 1 week. Most people only use pain medication for first night after the surgery and then use ice. Sutures behind the ear and inside the ear for yellow gauze are removed after 7 days. Bruising lasts up to for 1 week and swelling lasts for up to 2 weeks. Scars fade within 2 to 3 months, but scarring is hidden behind the ears. Most people take at least 1 to 2 weeks off work to recover.
