All About Nose Job Surgery

Rhinoplasty - or a nose job - involves placing incisions just inside the rim of the nostrils and across the skin between the nostrils. No incisions are placed on the front or tip of the nose. Soft tissues are carefully separated from underlying cartilage and bone. The excess bone and cartilage are then adjusted to give the face a more balanced appearance. If rhinoplasaty is performed to relieve obstructions inside the nose or to reconstruct the nasal passages, the procedure is known as septorhinoplasty.
This is where an obstruction is removed through internal incisions and the interior of the nose is restructured. This part of the operation is often covered by insurance. Nose job surgery is performed under General Anesthesia and lasts for 1.5 to 3 hours. You will need to wear a cast, tape and drip pad for 1 week. Most patients use pain medication for up to a week afterwards. The sutures under the nose and behind the ears (if ear cartilage is used) are removed after 7 days. Bruising under the eyes and on the nose can last for one week and swelling for 2 weeks (a swollen tip can last for much longer). Scarring will fade within 2 to 3 months. Most people take 1 to 2 weeks off work to recover. For more details on nose job surgery, talk to Dr. Kevin Ende, M.D. in Englewood, NJ.
